Stand-Up Comedy for Beginners
July 25 - August 8
6:30 - 8:30pm
Some people say stand-up comedy cannot be taught, but for any performer, critical feedback is imperative for understanding how you come across and how you need to improve. In this class, instructor Grayson Morris will help students find their own unique voice as they write, revise, and perform their original work . The group will dissect both the writing and delivery of jokes and discuss what works or doesn't work and why. The class will culminate with a performance in the studio for friends and family and then together we will all attend an open mic in town to try it out for real!
Grayson Morris is a stand-up comedian, puppeteer, and conceptual artist based in Asheville, N.C. She is founder and artistic director of emersion, an immersive theater performance art installation walk-through experience performed bi-annually in her own house. She has toured nationwide with her one woman show, Am I a Grownup Yet?, and has opened for Louis C.K. and appeared on Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV. She has worked as an artist-in-residence in Asheville City Schools and co-founded Asheville's giant puppet collective, Street Creature.
