CHILDREN'S THEATRE

Our shows for children are available for single or multiple performances at schools, libraries, museums, community centers and theaters.  Please contact us for scheduling details.

Newly Grown Tales
Grades Pre-K - 6 (Ages 4-11) and the entire family.

Newly Grown Tales combines several conventions of storytelling with some of the more inventive conventions of theater to tell folktales the children have a hand in writing.  The content is fully improvised so that children of any elementary age can better understand how folktales may have begun to be told, and how they have been passed down through oral tradition for hundreds of generations.  Some of the ways our stories are told is through dance, song and puppetry.  This show is fun for anyone who believes in the power of storytelling, and, maybe, has a story or two to tell.

Feet Water
Grades Pre-K - 3 (Ages 4-8) and the entire family.

A cleanliness parable adapted from an Irish folktale, the actors in Feet Water employ masks, and puppets and audience participation to weave a magical tale.  The children will get a thrill from their own ability to build an old, Irish cottage and carry on a conversation with a bucket of bath water.  This play teaches the importance of cleanliness and taking responsibilities for their personal chores, while exposing them to elements of theater that are meant to charm and amaze.

The Sultan’s Wife
Grades 3-6 (Ages 8-11) and the entire family.

Music and comedy are prevalent in this adaptation of a Swahili folktale that teaches the value of communication within relationships.  This engaging fable is sure to keep both children and adults laughing as they find themselves empathizing with a hapless sultan, his too-smart servant and a poor man who knows the secret to keeping those around him happy.  Communication is a skill needed by children today, more than ever, and by looking back to ancient African wisdom they will gain a greater understanding of its importance.

ARTS IN EDUCATION

The members of Attic Salt Theatre Company are committed to the ideals that theater naturally brings into a classroom, such as multi-culturalism and multi-intelligence.  However, we chose not to stop there.  Children are deserving of quality theater in its own right.  A child who learns to embrace the arts in his/her youth will cherish the arts forever, and reap the rewards their whole lives.

Study guides are available to coincide with each production.  And Q & A sessions with the actors can be arranged (additional time required).

Since many of our staff and actors have teaching experience, for an additional fee, we offer educational workshops to coincide with the performance or in all areas of Dramatic Arts; acting, playwriting, storytelling, etc.  We can create workshops of any length or time.

BOOKING INFORMATION

With an understanding that each group’s needs and budgets are different, we offer a flexible fee schedule as well as reduced rates for multiple shows.

Our shows require very little space and require no special lighting or sound.  We can perform in your classroom, cafeteria, or gymnasium.  All of our productions need very little setup time (about ten to fifteen minutes) allowing for multiple shows.  Each performance lasts one hour including 15 minutes allotted for floor seating of the children by our actors, allowing them to feel like they are part of the show.

Please call us at (212) 330-7100 or e-mail us at MAppelbaum@atticsalt.org for fees, study guides, and any additional information on how to book a performance or educational workshop for your group.

Attic Salt Theatre Company is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to excellence in educational theater. We have shows available for production in schools, camps, or community centers.
